THE ARTS SOCIETY
STEYNING

The aim of The Arts Society Steyning, is to inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the Arts and an awareness of our Arts Heritage and Conservation.

In June 2018 TASS funded an Artist in Residence project at Steyning Primary School.

Nadia Chalk worked with a select group of children from the Traveller community to work on a presentation, to the whole school, to celebrate what it means to be a traveller. The children produced worthwhile and exciting art work posters with real soul.

This was the second year TASS has supported an Young Arts Project at the school and hope to continue to provide funding again in 2019.

In July 2018 TASS funded an Artist in Residence project at Steyning Grammar School over two days.

Sarah Pimenta following last years successful workshops once again worked with a group of students, to help those with their GCSE course work and those the school wanted to retain for A level art.

The students focused on various printing and screen printing techniques, followed by the use of digital technology.

TASS hopes to continue to provide funding again in 2019

Both these projects were well publicised in the local press, thus showing the society continues encouraging and inspiring young people in the community.

We have already supported students at West Dean College and continued to offered prizes to students at the Grammar School Art Exhibition.

In 2016 we funded an Artist in Residence drawing & painting workshop for Year 10 students at Steyning Grammar School, which was our first contact with the school.

Subsequently in 2017 we  funded an 'Identity' workshop at the Steyning Primary School.

Also in the same year we funded a Screen Printing Workshop once again for Year 10 students at Steyning Grammar School.

All these workshops have been a great success and we, as a Society, are continuing to encourage both schools with valuable art experiences for young people.

We have a similar programme planned for the future.
